traditional style master carpenter
Wesley at work

Wesley Grant Parke has carpentry in his blood. His great grandfather was an Ulster carpenter, and these traditional methods have been passed down through many generations. Today Wesley uses the same traditional methods which originated from 15th and 16th century style carpentry.

During the last 20 years, Wesley has been lucky enough to have travelled all over the world, giving him the opportunity to learn about different aspects of carpentry from every continent. This inspired Wesley to move back to nature, and leaving behind his nomadic life he settled near Beauly in the Scottish Highlands.

Surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Highlands, Wesley began to follow his life long passion of traditional carpentry, and began his new enterprise handcrafting individual pieces of rustic furniture and art.

Wesley explains "I use time-tested carpentry skills such as Mortise, Tenon and Dovetail that are all cut and assembled by hand, which means extra attention to detail. Everything I use is completely natural. All the wood is indigenous from sustainably managed woodland, and I also sometimes use other materials such as slate from Caithness, and glass from Inverness"

Wesley doesn’t varnish his work unless it needs to be weatherproofed for outdoor use. Instead he rubs in oil to produce a rich glossy finish. This means people see the natural design, the grain and texture on the inside of the wood. Using this approach distinguishes Wesley's work from something that is machine or factory made, and makes it much more naturally beautiful.

There are very few businesses that can truly claim their products are unique. As Wesley says "because I work only with natural material, and everything is made by hand, no two creations will ever be the same"

Truly, Wesley Grant Parke is a master of his craft who makes a range of furniture and art that can never be replicated.
